The Russian Sheepdog is interesting because three distinct breeds fall under its name. All are large muscled dogs that are instinctly aggressive. The three types are the South Russian, Central Asian, and Caucasian breeds. They are all very different but they have a few traits that they all share. All forms have muscled bodies and thick medium length coats as well as a stubborn streak a mile long, so patience and firm handling are requirements no matter which breed you have.
On the upside only occasional brushing is needed although the white coats may require a bit more care. These big dogs need thorough exercise so you need a daily routine or the dog will become irritable and aggressive. The breed was originally bred for guarding so they may not make the best pets for families with children or other dogs as they tend to be dog aggressive however fiercely loyal to their masters.
